route companion

Stop building your pet care routes by hand.

Route Companion takes the visits you already have in Time To Pet and builds the day: who goes where, in what order, and why. It knows about arrival windows, medication visits, key holders, group hikes, sitters in training, and the client who will only have Rachel. You open a page on your computer or phone, press a button, and the day is there.

This is for businesses running on Time To Pet. If you schedule somewhere else, or on paper, this is not for you yet. It is also not a scheduling app:
Time To Pet stays where your visits and your clients live. Route Companion is the part that decides who drives where, which Time To Pet does not do.

how it works

  1. starts from the day you already have

Paste Time To Pet's Daily Summary for today or any day ahead, even one with no sitters assigned yet, and you see it exactly as booked. moreless

Pin what should stay, whether that's one visit, one sitter's day or everything. Then reroute: fewest changes, best routes, or compare the two first. A before-and-after card tells you the driving saved and the changes to make in Time To Pet. Arrival windows are respected: 7 to 9 am means anywhere in that window, and a meet and greet stays at its exact time.

  2. knows who can go

Skills, medication and injection training, sitters who only do certain services, clients who exclude someone, and clients who need a familiar face. moreless

You decide which of your Time To Pet flags count as skills. Set a rule once and every day after respects it.

  3. handles real people

Time off or availability from Time To Pet, including weekly time off and any break in the middle of a shift. moreless

Someone marked out mid-morning due to car issues, or working on their day off after all, is one tap. Trainees can ride with a different mentor each day if that is how you train, and a sitter who changes their name keeps their history.

  4. tells you exactly what to change in Time To Pet

Every visit that moved to a different sitter, or outside the time Time To Pet has booked, is listed. moreless

You can copy each one and tick it off as you go. It never changes anything in your Time To Pet account.

  5. checks new requests

Paste a request in and see where each visit fits before you approve it. moreless

Nothing is booked for you. Reading Time To Pet's request emails by itself comes in an update after launch.

  6. looks ahead

Every upcoming day with visits: what it would change and how much driving that saves. moreless

It also points out when one sitter is carrying the day. Nothing moves until you say so.

  7. reports that answer real questions

Route Companion presents a scorecard on your phone, plus reports on what a client is worth, what a route costs and who is overloaded. moreless

They also show which clients have gone quiet, what training rides cost you, and what to change first. Bring in your last two years of visits on day one and the money reports work from your first morning.

Planning the day

  • Starts from your day as bookedPaste the Daily Summary and see the day as Time To Pet booked it. Pin one visit, a sitter's day, ticked visits or all, then Reroute: fewest changes, best routes, or compare the two first. A before-and-after card shows the driving before and after, the visits placed, and the changes to make in Time To Pet.
  • Reroutes before you wake up, if you want itOff unless you turn it on, so each day shows as Time To Pet booked it. On, today gets the fewest-changes reroute around 5 a.m., and anything it moves is on your list to change in Time To Pet.
  • A morning briefA short note arrives each morning by email or in your chat channel: what needs you today, tomorrow's busiest two hours and who is off, one number, and anything that has stopped working. A clean day is a few lines.
  • Looks ahead for youThe same morning run checks the coming days and says in one line when one needs a decision.
  • Follows Time To Pet until you rerouteA day nobody rerouted shows as Time To Pet has it booked. Once you reroute it, it stays put: a new booking is fitted in only where nobody else's time moves by more than ten minutes; anything else waits for Reroute.
  • Reroute several days at oncePick the days on a calendar and replan them together.
  • Tap a visit to see whyEvery visit says why it went to that sitter.
  • One map, one color per sitterReal road lines, with one sitter's route highlighted when you tap them.
  • Overnights, pet taxi and keysOvernight arrivals and departures, pick-ups and drop-offs, and key hand-offs are planned as real stops.

  • Pin a visit to a sitterIt stays with them through every reroute.
  • Move, add or cancel from your phoneCancelling reminds you to cancel in Time To Pet too.
  • A visit nobody can fitSee every sitter with what it would cost them, then decide.
  • Tell the teamEmail just the sitters whose day changed, or everyone.

  • No Dropbox? No problemChoose the week's visits file from Time To Pet instead.
  • Cleans up after itselfDuplicates, moved bookings and cancellations are sorted out on every import.
  • Never touches Time To PetIt hands you a short list of changes to make there. It cannot write to your account.
  • Requests from your clientsPaste a request in and see where each visit fits before you approve it. Reading Time To Pet's request emails by itself comes in an update after launch.

  • Hours, visit limits and breaks per sitter
  • Trainees ride alongA trainee shadows a mentor for the day, and the mentor can change daily.

  • Rename a sitterTheir history, clients and keys follow the new name.

Special rules

Meds, skills and weekly hour limits come from the setup questions; group hikes and zones are set in the spreadsheet. In Concierge and Implementation I set them all for you.

  • Medication and injectionsMedication keeps the timing window the pet needs. Every Sitter Gives Medication is one switch; injections are their own skill and go only to trained sitters.
  • Skills per serviceLarge dogs, cats only, anything you define: only sitters with the skill get the visit.
  • Group hikesMeeting points, recurring dates and destinations you can change.
  • Weekly hour limitsSee hours so far this week and catch anyone about to go over.
  • Zones for big teamsA large or busy day is split into areas and routed side by side.

Clients

  • Matched by emailA new pet, a move or a married name does not make a duplicate client, because clients are matched by email.
  • Addresses to map pins in one tap
  • Name changes keep their history
  • Your Time To Pet flags on the cardsChoose which ones show on the route page.

Setup and everyday use

  • Set up from your phoneAfter about an hour on a computer, a 17-step Set up screen you can finish from your phone. Day to day happens on the page, reports included; the spreadsheet is for a report over a period you pick, hike groups and zones, and the monthly requests import.
  • Check My DataEvery problem sorted into errors, warnings and notes, each saying what to do.
  • On your home screenAdd the route page to your phone like an app, or open it on your computer. Adding a password is optional.
  • Your name, logo and colors on the route page
  • Miles or kilometersPostal codes in Canada, the UK and Australia work too.
  • Updates without pastingAfter a one-time switch-on (about 15 minutes), new versions install from your spreadsheet (Check for Updates, then Yes); your data and link stay the same.
Reports

24 reports that answer real questions.

Your scorecard opens first, and you choose what shows on it: hide any number, pin up to six to the top. All 24 reports open on your phone or your computer. Each one says what it measures, where the numbers come from and what to do with it.

📌 Pin what stays
A pinned visit keeps its sitter through every reroute. Tap Pin all, then unpin the few you are happy to move.
Fewest changes, or best routes
Reroute: fewest changes only moves a visit off its Time To Pet sitter when that saves real driving. Reroute: best routes goes for the least driving and moves whatever it takes. Neither touches a pin.
Make the changes in Time To Pet
After a reroute you get the list of edits to make in Time To Pet, in plain words. Tick each one with Done. Skip keeps the Time To Pet sitter and replans the rest.
“Could not be scheduled”
Nothing is dropped without telling you. Tap Assign anyway and you get every sitter with the real cost of taking it (“22 min past the window”, “35 min past Simone’s hours”), and whoever you pick keeps it, marked as your call.
The day, hour by hour
One lane per sitter, so you can see what moved: an outlined block changed hands, a hatched one needs a decision. It is drawn for this demo; the real page shows each sitter's day as a list with times. Tap a block for its details.
